WOODEXPERT response to modern furniture trends
Let’s talk about the latest furniture design trends and their implementation in the WOODEXPERT.
Current trends in furniture-making are increasingly moving beyond the classic model of understanding furniture solely as objects for storage. Due to the increasingly popular minimalism in lifestyle and culture, it also applies to our homes, and consequently: reducing their furnishings. This means treating utilitarian objects as more luxurious and design-oriented, including furniture. The challenge, however, is the design: how to design modern furniture in a quick way? What can we create in WOODEXPERT? Here are some of the latest design trends made at WOODEXPERT:
LOUVERED PANELS
These extremely popular components are commonly used in modern interior design. They divide the interior into individual zones, and their wooden structure makes the room cosier. In WOODEXPERT, their design is fast thanks to the sketch extraction operation. A rich library of materials for furniture allows the user to select the preferred texture for board, edgebanding, veneer or profile, and, thanks to the “Assign support and finishing materials” option, quickly impose a given material on the surface.
CHAMFERED FRONTS
Carved grooves in cabinet and chest of drawer fronts are another really popular furniture trend. Vertical lines give the furniture character and enlarge the room. They also allude to the Scandinavian style, which is gaining popularity in furniture making. In WOODEXPERT, you can also design the grooves on the fronts thanks to the sketch extraction and linear sequence options. The software’s reliance on SOLIDWORKS allows us to make interesting modifications to the furniture shapes in the design.
WELDED STRUCTURES AND LOFT FURNITURE
Loft style has been steadfastly popular for several seasons now. The combination of welded structures and wood is versatile and matches the character of numerous multi-purpose rooms. In addition, finishing a room involves leaving some walls raw, uncovering some of the structure, such as wires, pipes or ceiling beams, which saves on interior finishing costs.
“Welded structures” are a separate module available for every SOLIDWORKS user. Adding wooden components and creating drawings and BOM in WOODEXPERT is seamless and fast. In the WOODEXPERT material legend, you can easily categorize materials and assign them to specific elements. You don’t have to import textures from the Internet: a rich library allows you to select a specific material with different finishes, including matte, gloss, satin.
STREAMLINED SHAPES
Advances in furniture manufacturing make it possible to create different shapes from the standard rectangular panels. Streamlined shapes bring harmony to the interior. The lack of sharp angles of furniture is required for the creation of children’s collections, yachts, sometimes also furniture for public procurement contracts: anywhere where ergonomics and safety of use are very important.
Specific rounding values for fronts and panels can be specified using the “Rounding” operation. Dividing this operation into 4 types or specifying the parameters of rounding and edge values make it possible to achieve different effects in a furniture design. Assigning materials to rounded panels and edges is not a problem in WOODXPERT: modified edges will be searched for when submitting materials as default.
PLYWOOD
Plywood has also made a comeback in interior and furniture trends for a few simple reasons:
- the material structure of plywood is very close to wood, so it is in line with the aesthetics of Scandinavian furniture, the popularity of which continues to grow;
- plywood is easy to mold and achieve bent furniture shapes;
- plywood is an environmentally friendly material;
- plywood is versatile and its character matches numerous interior types;
- it is possible to achieve different effects of finishing plywood: covering with clear varnish, laminate or melamine.
In WOODEXPERT, plywood can be selected from a material library, assigned to components and material legends. Due to its specific characteristics, plywood in WOODEXPERT is transferred to the entire panel simultaneously as a finishing material.
The rapidly developing furniture industry offers even more modern solutions. WOODEXPERT furniture design software, thanks to its functionalities, responds to the needs of the furniture market and interesting design challenges. Test it for 30 days in your company. We also encourage you to follow our blog, which periodically features new projects and realizations.
