Creating drawings in WOODEXPERT
In this article we will discuss generating technical drawings in our program.
Like every program of its class, SOLIDWORKS features an advanced module for creating technical drawings. However, making them by hand is time-consuming. With WOODEXPERT’s drawing generator, you will create drawings for multiple parts and assemblies in an instant.
Settings
Drawing tool – list of parts. |
After the project is finished, I open “Generate drawings” tool. I can switch between a list of parts (panels) and assemblies (cabinets). I select desired elements. I can change dimensioning type and input additional information: who created, checked and approved the drawings. Other information will be read from the project.
I click “Generate drawings”.
Results
Parts and assemblies with drawings got an appropriate icon. |
After the task is done, I open the tool window again. Parts and assemblies that had drawings generated got an appropriate icon. Clicking it directs me to the file in Windows Explorer.
Depending on the settings, WOODEXPERT will generate different types of files. |
Depending on the settings, WOODEXPERT will generate a SOLIDWORKS drawing file (SLDDRW), JPG, DXF, STEP and PDF. In addition, in the main project folder two collective PDF files will be created: one for all selected parts and one for all assemblies.
Part drawings contain all views, a rendered isometric view, dimensions, information about materials and toolings.
Example part drawing. |
Assembly drawing consists of two pages. One page has 3 basic views with dimensions. Other page has a rendered isometric view and a list of parts.
Example assembly drawing. |
In addition, each drawing contains an information table with the name of the part/assembly, project name, designer name etc.
I can open the SLDDRW file and add e.g. a cross-section or a detail view.

With the next film we will begin discussing BOM Manager module. In the first part we will show creating cost estimations and cutlists.
