Data management in WOODEXPERT
Proper data management within a company has an impact on the production rate and performance of the entire enterprise. Transmission of files that are compliant with the organisation requirements and the possibility of their proper identification translate into maximum benefits, minimum errors and reduced work time.
In the WOODEXPERT furniture design software, all data is stored in the SQL database so it can be shared and safely collected and stored outside a workstation. It can be accessed from any workstation.
Every WOODEXPERT software user is connected to a selected database.
Users connected to the same database share the selected settings on all workstations, and the settings include for example:
- basic settings: language, library location, permissions and BOM units;
- CAM settings;
- defined fields;
Common settings in a common database allow for proper maintenance of work standards during the design process and preparation of the production data. It is also possible to create your own database that cannot be accessed by other users, thus creating individual settings and work standards.
Let’s examine some examples in which you will see how the SQL database is used in the WOODEXPERT software.
A furniture design is stored in the database from its saving. By narrowing down the name and details, you can identify it faster.
Another example is to store and share a material legend within your company. A legend once created can be stored, modified and used multiple times in subsequent designs, also in other workstations within the company.
What about changing the data language? It can be changed in administrative settings and after accepting, it will be applied to all workstations.
Let’s switch to ranges: new panel thicknesses entered from the administrator panel appear in the parameter tab of a given template.
WHAT IS PDM?
PDM is a comprehensive tool that acts as a network drive that stores all files, including WOODEXPERT files. One of the most important features of this solution is the elimination of file overwriting within the team and its dedication to working with CAD files.
If the PDM solution is used by a company, it optimises documentation flow and ensures access to information on who edited the file and when it was edited. Previous versions of the files can be accessed despite their modification, as they are subject to archiving.
SOLIDWORKS PDM has a search engine for fast identification of a given file, e.g. by customer number, description or part number.
What are the other distinguishable features of the PDM during work?
- Secure access to folders and files by assigning access for the right users to the right resources.
- Create designs on the basis of established rules for structures of all directories, nomenclature, numbering and content of files accompanying the CAD documentation.
- File preview without the need to have dedicated programs and search engines.
