New in WOODEXPERT 2024: Nesting labels
In response to our clients’ expectations, we’ve added a new function to WOODEXPERT: nesting labels. It allows the user to batch-generate labels when creating data for nesting machines.
The process
After the model is finished, the user opens Nesting module and selects the elements. The program calculates the position of the elements on sheets of material according to the selected algorithm. Then it begins to create data for nesting machines: .DWG and .STEP files along with SOLIDWORKS-specific files.
Next, the program begins creating labels based on the template specified in WOODEXPERT settings. A SOLIDWORKS drawing file is created, with as many sheets (pages) as there are parts on a sheet of material. Then it is printed into a PDF file. One PDF file is created for every sheet of material. PDF filename is the same as the name of this sheet’s nesting assembly.
Each label can contain:
- Layout image, i.e. position of the part on the sheet
- Drawing image, i.e. drawing of the part (with toolings and edgebanding) (requires that the part drawing has been generated)
- Data read from the part, e.g. dimensions, part name, material
- Name of the CNC file (can be in the form of barcode) (requires that a CNC file for the part has been generated)
- Project data, e.g. project name, client, project supervisor
- Nesting data, e.g. part’s number on the sheet, name of the nesting assembly, amount of this part on the sheet
- Custom properties, e.g. comments
- Hard-coded elements, e.g. text or picture
Apart from the templates we provide, the user can define their own.
PDF is a universal file format, handled both by standard printers as well as by special label printers. Properly defined template will ensure that all data can be easily read.
Can I generate labels if I don’t have a nesting machine?
You can use the label generation tool if you don’t have a nesting machine. However, there are better ways. Modern cutlist optimization software for panel and format saws usually features a module for generating labels. WOODEXPERT can output a file (e.g. .CSV or .XLSX) which can then be loaded into such software to create a cutlist and labels.
If you don’t yet have a cutlist optimization software, we can offer the excellent Formatyzacja 5. Feel free to contact us.
