New in WOODEXPERT 2024: BOM Manager
There are many reasons to be excited about the upcoming release of the new WOODEXPERT 2024. In this article we will focus on new functions of our BOM (Bill of Materials) Manager.
Let’s get technical: Metadata
Let’s give ourselves some technical context.
Each file – be it a SOLIDWORKS file, a picture or a TXT – apart from the data we’re directly interested in, contains what is called metadata. This broad term encompasses general info about the file, such as when was it created, by whom, when was it last edited etc. It can also contain data specific to a file format. For instance, an .mp3 file will often feature information about the track, such as its title, the name of the album, year of release and so on.
In case of SOLIDWORKS files, metadata can store a lot of information.
Most of these fields will be filled in automatically by WOODEXPERT based on part’s properties, such as its dimensions, weight, project name and so on. However, some of them are designed to be filled in by the user. Is the part to be manufactured by us or by a contractor? By what contractor? Maybe there’s a comment to be passed on to the manufacturing team? Custom properties is the place to put that kind of information.
Two-ways synchronization
With WOODEXPERT’s new feature, this data can now be edited from BOM Manager and then synced back to be stored in the file’s metadata. You no longer need to open a part, open its Custom Properties editor, find the correct row and fill it in. Just open BOM Manager and write away. With one click of a button, this information will be saved in its respective file’s metadata.
Excel reports
We have designed BOM Manager with flexibility in mind. Each user needs different information, so the overall amount of available data can be overwhelming. However, with our newest feature, generating production reports takes just two clicks.
All the data will be parsed through a pre-defined template to produce an Excel file with all the information you need – and nothing more.
If you don’t like any of the templates we provide, then you can go and… create your own. It can contain multiple tabs with different information, e.g. one for fittings, one for cut elements and one for a material summary. It can also have custom result filename, containing e.g. the name of the project, its tag and the date and time when the report was created.
Stay tuned for the new WOODEXPERT 2024
This is just a fraction of all the new features of the new WOODEXPERT 2024. Stay tuned and don’t miss out on the new release – coming soon.
