Designing a kitchen step by step. Smart functions supporting design (3/3) – Copying the project
WOODEXPERT provides many tools supporting the design of kitchen furniture. It facilitates the work of designers, shortening the implementation time and minimizing errors at every stage of the process. In this series of articles, we present the possibilities of the add-on in terms of creating and inserting components into the project.
This is the last article in the series in which I talk about smart functions supporting the design in WOODEXPERT. In it, you will see how the “Copy project” function works. Enjoy!
Finished project
Let’s say the client has seen the kitchen design below and would like a quote that includes minor changes.

In order not to create a new project from scratch and to keep the current project, we will use the “Copy project” function. To do this, I select the “Copy project” option on the WOODEXPERT toolbar.

At this point, a window opens in which we specify the name of the project copy, a new tag, name of the directory where the files will be stored and that folder’s location.
Note! You should not store your projects in the WOODEXPERT library (WoodExpertLib folder). We recommend creating a separate designated location on the disk for storing projects.

After specifying the name and location for the files, we confirm by clicking the “Copy” button. At this point, the process of copying all project elements begins. The duration varies and depends on the level of advancement of the project. Once the copying is complete, the project will be immediately opened in SOLIDWORKS and will be ready for further editing.

The copied project is completely independent from the original. We can treat the copy as a variant of a given project, on which we can introduce changes and expand with additional components.
Now, when the client decides on one of the variants, all we have to do is generate production data from it – done and done.
Summary
In this series of articles, we have gone through a solid set of useful functions that will significantly speed up the process of designing and configuring complex furniture sets, not only kitchens. I am sure that they will quickly become an indispensable tool in the belt of every WOODEXPERT user.
This was the last article in this series. I hope it was useful for you. Do you like this format? What other functions should we discuss? We’ll be happy to see your comment. See you soon!
